Deep-Drawing Steel

Deep-draw stamping demands material consistency at every level: uniform elongation, predictable temper, tight thickness tolerances, and a clean surface finish across every coil. When scrap rates climb because your metal won't perform, the problem starts at the source. Eagle Metals is a precision reroll mill that manufactures deep-drawing stainless steel, copper, brass, nickel silver, copper nickel, and low-carbon steel coil and strip engineered to perform in your dies.

What Deep-Draw Stamping Demands From Your Metal

Deep-draw stamping is a cold-forming process that presses flat sheet metal into three-dimensional shapes using a punch and die under conditions of radial tension and tangential compression.

Successful deep-draw operations require metal with high elongation and ductility to withstand severe deformation without cracking. The material must maintain consistent temper and hardness across the entire coil or sheet to deliver repeatable draw ratios from the first blank to the last.

A low yield-to-tensile strength ratio allows the metal to flow into the die more freely, reducing the risk of tearing during forming.

Grain size as well as surface finish play a critical role in DDQ performance.  If grain structure is too small, the metal will remain hard and won’t flow as easily.  Too large, and surface fractures and orange peel are possible. Clean, consistent surfaces prevent galling, reduce friction against tooling, and are essential for surface-critical drawn parts. Finally, tight thickness tolerances keep draw ratios predictable and minimize scrap caused by material variation.

Materials Eagle Metals Supplies for Deep Draw Applications

Eagle Metals proudly manufactures precision coil and strip in the alloys deep draw stampers rely on most. We produce each material to the exact temper, gauge, and surface requirements of your tooling demands

Eagle Metals supplies stainless, copper, brass, nickel silver, and cold-rolled steel coil and strip with the controlled mechanical properties and tight thickness tolerances these applications require.

Stainless Steel for Deep Draw Stamping

Austenitic stainless grades 304 and 305 are the most common choices for drawn parts. Grade 305, with its higher nickel content, offers a lower work-hardening rate that allows for deeper, more complex draws without intermediate annealing.

Copper for Deep Draw Applications

C110 ETP Copper delivers high ductility and excellent formability, making it a go-to material for drawn electrical components, plumbing fittings, and heat exchanger parts.

Brass for Deep Draw Stamping

C260 Cartridge Brass (70/30) has long been the benchmark alloy for deep-draw stamping. Its superior ductility and low work-hardening rate make it ideal for ammunition casings, hardware, fittings, and decorative drawn components.

Why Deep Draw Stampers Choose Eagle Metals

Deep-draw quality steel and alloys are only as good as the mill behind them. Eagle Metals gives stampers the material consistency, precision, and flexibility that high-volume draw operations depend on:

  • Tight Tolerance Manufacturing: Every coil is produced to your exact gauge, width, and temper specifications at our precision reroll mill in Leesport, PA.
  • 100 lb Minimums to 40,000 lb Coils: Run prototype tooling trials or full production orders with the same supplier, no volume restrictions.
  • In-House Finishing: Slitting, annealing, edge conditioning, and leveling happen under one roof, so your material arrives ready for the press.
  • ISO 9001:2015 Certified Quality: Backed by on-site metallurgical engineers and a full-scale metallurgical lab to verify mechanical properties before shipment.
  • Domestic Production, Faster Lead Times: 100% manufactured in the USA with shorter lead times than overseas mills and large-scale distributors.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deep Draw Stamping Metal

The best metal depends on the application. DDQ steel is the most common choice for high-volume automotive and appliance components. Stainless steel 305 is preferred for corrosion-resistant drawn parts, while C260 brass and C110 copper are ideal for ammunition casings, electrical housings, and plumbing components.
